Suzette Stitch Crochet Tutorial: Learn This Easy Texture Stitch Fast

Hi everyone, today we will learn a new stitch – the suzette stitch. The suzette stitch is very easy to crochet. I’ve been wanting to give a suzette stitch crochet tutorial for a long time. Because this stitch is beginner friendly as well as very easy and elegant.

You can make cushion covers, dishcloths, placemats, and much more from it.

Whether you’re a beginner looking for an impressive yet not-too-complicated stitch, or an expert crocheter searching for a dense and textured stitch, the Suzette stitch crochet is the perfect stitch for you.

What is Suzette Stitch Crochet

Suzette stitch crocjet is a textured stitch pattern that combines single and double crochet stitches into a single stitch. Then one stitch is skipped and the pattern is repeated.

What makes Suzette stitch special is that it combines two basic stitches into one smooth, rhythmic movement. You don’t have to juggle different stitch types in each row; the pattern repeats consistently, so it’s easy to remember and feels quite relaxing to crochet.

Actually, it looks quite complicated. If someone doesn’t know how to crochet and you show them Suzette stitch crochet fabric, they’ll say this: How difficult it must have been to make this fabric, even though it is very simple to make.

Common Mistakes and How to Fix Them

1. Uneven Edges

This usually happens when you either forget the last stitch or make both single and double crochet in the last stitch. Make sure you only make a single crochet stitch at the end.

2. Fabric Feels Too Stiff

If the fabric feels too stiff, increase your hook size by one. Because the suzette stitch is already dense, you don’t need to make it any denser while making the fabric. Otherwise it becomes stiff.

3. Holes Appearing in the Fabric

If holes are visible in the fabric, you may have skipped two stitches instead of one. Make sure you skip only one stitch.

4. Your stitch counting has increased by one

Your project’s stitch count is one stitch higher. This is because you’ve chained an odd number instead of an even number. Remember to chain even numbers.

Best Yarn Choices for Suzette Stitch Crochet

The stitch works with almost any yarn, but some perform better than others.

Cotton Yarn

  • Ideal for dishcloths, placemats, and summer garments
  • Shows stitch definition clearly
  • Minimal stretch

Acrylic Yarn

  • Affordable and beginner-friendly
  • Great for blankets and scarves
  • Holds shape well

Wool and Wool Blends

  • Excellent warmth and elasticity
  • Perfect for hats, cowls, and winter accessories

Avoid extremely fuzzy yarns when learning, as they can hide the stitch structure.

Project Ideas Using Suzette Stitch Crochet

Once you learn how to make it, you can use it to make many items –
