Crochet Granny Square Christmas Ornament|Last-Minute Crochet Decoration Idea!

Hi crochet friends, in this blog post today, we’ll be making a granny square Christmas ornament, which will be in a boho style. We’ll make a star from the granny square and add a tassel to the bottom. You can hang it on your Christmas tree, gift it to someone, use it as a bag charm, or turn it into a keychain.

This idea came to me when I was making granny squares. I found them really cute and when they were done, I loved it so much that I used them as home decor. Yes, I forgot to tell him that you can use them as home decor too. You can make a lot of these ornaments and string them on a string and decorate them on your doorstep or anywhere else. It looks really beautiful.

I have made it with a single color. If you are not an absolute beginner and know how to make color variations, then you can decorate it with different colors.

I created this for absolute beginners, by the way. In my crochet classes, I want my students to start with easy projects so they don’t have any difficulties. And they can decorate their homes with handmade items during their holidays.

🎄 This easy granny square Christmas ornament tutorial is perfect for last-minute festive crafting and cozy crochet vibes.

How to make Granny Square Christmas Ornament

ch4

Join the loop on your hook to the first chain. This will form a circle. We need to work within this circle.

4 chain, count it as a tr

[3dc, 1tr] × 4 this will make a square.

Don’t make last tr. Because we have already made it by making 4 chains in the beginning.

join the last dc with the 4th chain which we made earlier.

Your first square is ready. Now make the second one.

Second square

4 chain (count as a tr.)

[7dc (2dc, tr, 2dc)] x 4 = {48}

The beauty of this granny square Christmas ornament lies in its simplicity—each round adds more texture and warmth to your design.

Third square -4 chain (count as a tr.)

[11dc, (2dc, tr, 2dc)) x 4 = {64}

Your Granny square is ready.Pull the corners of the granny square together. Sew the first three corners, then fill them with fiber fill. Now sew the fourth corner as well.

After this, between the two corners, take a long piece of yarn, thread it through a needle, and tie a knot. Insert the needle through the space (gap) from the opposite side and pull it through. Then remove the needle — the yarn will go slightly inward into that space. In the same way, you have to do this for all four spaces. Gradually, it will start taking the shape of a star.

Make a hanging loop

After sewing the corners, you still have thread on your needle. We’ll use that thread to make a hanging loop.After sewing the corners, leave the thread as long as you need a loop. Now, sew it near the corner with the needle.

Tassel

Wrap the yarn around a mobile phone or similar large piece of cardboard about 25-30 times. Now, pull out the thread and cut it from one side. You will now have several strings of the same size.Tie them together with a longer piece of yarn. Now, hold the two corners of the yarn together.

From where you tied it previously, take another piece of yarn and tie it a little lower, trimming the uneven strings at the bottom.

The tassel is ready.

Attach the tassel to the star.

Done

pin it now, perfect it later👍
